I woke up this morning looking for lamp shades. I need 2, maybe 3, and I saw them at Target but too pricey. I started on the IKEA website and remembered Cole asked for a desk, so I looked at some. Nope. Then to Craig’s List. Nope. Then to Nextdoor. Wait, What? A free old solid wood desk with pictures of it wrapped in plastic and standing on its side. I was still in bed. I message the gal,
“I am interested in your desk for my teenager. My cell is. Thanks a bunch!”
She had posted it 10 hours previously, the night before.
She texts me.
“Beth, your daughter would love it. I have someone who wants to look at it this afternoon. I’ve not replied to her yet. I’d love to pass it on to you or her.”
And I replied.
“It would be an amazing blessing! It is actually for my 16 year old son. Could we come by?”
“Yes”
And on the way I declared to my son, this desk has a story and I am so excited about what God is going to show us. And I was right! We were met at the door and walked into the garage. The desk was her late husband’s. He had it for over 40 years and she said he would be thrilled to know my son had it. He passed away six weeks earlier and she had just had the memorial. She asked if we were believers and had suspected when I texted “blessing”. She felt God had urged her to give it to us.
With this gift, you gave us an opportunity to minister to her heart. She invited us into her home to give us a program from the memorial, share other pictures and tell us stories about her family. This was her second husband of just over 10 years. She had been widowed once before. Her husband was a war veteran. He was a wonderful, loving husband and father. He died peacefully at home with his wife by his side. I got to hug her and hold her and cry with her and we stood in the kitchen, the three of us with the three of you (the Trinity, God, Jesus and Holy Spirit), and we got to pray. Lord, you are magnificent.
And God, only you can order things in such a way. Your timing is perfect. Regardless of what we see or think, this is true. Your gift is beautiful and it has a story and it is full of you. Thank you Lord. Show me your way today and every day. I want the privilege and honor of being invited into the mystery of your ways. Thank you Lord.
